Olfactory Research 2016 - 2019

Olfactory Art and Science, Memory and Wellbeing is an international research project including artists from Japan, France, Sweden and the UK who have been exploring relationships between smell, memory and narrative using a wide range of media. The research objective relates to investigating how particular scents can induce natsukashii (nostalgic) feelings and the development of olfactory artworks and artefacts that evoke feelings of wellbeing in those who encounter and interact with them.

This research forms part of  '匂いによるなつかしい感情喚起の構造と快適空間の創造 (Creation of Comfortable Environments through the use of Smells that Evoke Nostalgic Feelings)' funded by JSPS KAKENHI (Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research - Neo-Gerontology category, Japan 2016-2019), with particular reference to the elderly and those suffering with neurocognitive impairment.
